ST. GEORGE – Police arrested a 45-year-old man in St. George Tuesday on a second-degree felony charge of receiving stolen property after he allegedly sold stolen boxes of sprinklers.

Officers responded to a felony theft call on the 1500 East block of 4300 South after a St. George Golf Club employee reported several sprinkler boxes were missing from behind the club’s maintenance shed, according to a probable cause statement written by St. George Police Officer Ken Childs in support of the arrest.

The employee said he had gone to Dixie Metal Recycling in St. George, where he found five of the sprinkler boxes; the sprinklers are valued at $1,100 per box, according to the statement.

Police obtained information about who had sold the five boxes, which led them to Robert Steve Kluesner, of St. George.

Kluesner told police he found seven sprinkler boxes out on the Arizona Strip and took them in to sell them, admitting he had been in possession of the stolen property, Childs said in the statement.

Kluesner was arrested and booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.

He was charged with a second-degree felony for receiving stolen property. His bail pending trial stands at $10,000.

Kluesner made his initial court appearance Thursday and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on April 13.

St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said the matter is still being investigated.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
