ST. GEORGE — An SUV was pushed into a drainage ditch in front of the St. George Car Wash on South Bluff Street Thursday during a two-vehicle collision reportedly caused by a driver making an improper U-turn.
The driver of a silver Saturn SUV was traveling north on Bluff Street, just north of Main Street, when the driver decided to make a U-turn immediately after the median ended, St. George Police Sgt. Albert Gilman said.
As the driver of the Saturn made the U-turn, they turned directly in the path of a southbound Lexus SUV, striking the Lexus and forcing the Saturn to crash into the ditch, Gilman said.
The driver of the Lexus was able to pull off the roadway into a driveway next to the car wash. The Saturn, however, was firmly stuck on the concrete curb lining the ditch. After some work, a wrecker was able to free the Saturn with minimal further damage.
The passenger in the Lexus complained of arm pain but refused transport to the hospital, Gilman said. No other injuries were reported.
The driver of the Saturn SUV was issued a citation for an improper U-turn, Gilman said.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
