Region 9 soccer: Panthers crank up the O in rout of Cedar

CEDAR CITY — Sometimes it’s good to let it fly. Pine View, which has won most of its games this season with stout defense, put on an offensive show with a 6-3 victory in windy Cedar City Wednesday afternoon.

Pine-view-smcedar-smThe Panthers scored three goals in each half and were never seriously challenged by the last-place Redmen. It was the second-highest goal output of the year for PV, which had beaten North Sanpete 9-0 earlier in the year.

Federico Resendis led the way by notching two goals, with four other Panthers also recording a tally — Jose Gaona, Kaleb Dudley, Michael Cardenas and Sergio Diaz. Cardenas has six goals this season and 19 in his career.

Cedar scored once in the first half and twice after intermission. The Redmen goal-scorers were Brett Sillitoe, JD Beachum and Jeff Rogers.

Pine View, for a few hours anyway, is all alone in first place. The Panthers, who won the region by three points last season, are 6-1-0 in Region 9, good enough for 18 points. PV leads Dixie by two and Snow Canyon by three. Those two teams face off Thursday night at Dixie High.

The Panthers, 7-4-1 overall, don’t play again until a home match with Desert Hills Apr. 10.

Cedar, 1-9-1 and 0-7-0 in region, hosts Dixie next Tuesday afternoon.
