ST. GEORGE — P.A.W.S. of St. George celebrated the grand reopening of its thrift store, PAWSitively Unique Boutique, at its new location 490 W. St. George Blvd., Suite 2A in St. George next to Baskin Robbins Saturday.

The store, which was previously located at 145 N. 400 West for about a year, had very little space to expand, Tamara Sneddon, a P.A.W.S. volunteer said.

“It’s really great to have this huge store,” Sneddon said. “We have a lot more room, can take a lot more donations. We’re getting a lot more exposure and a lot more customers knowing about us.”

P.A.W.S., which stands for “providing animals with support,” is a nonprofit organization that helps rescue cats and dogs from unfortunate circumstances by putting them in foster homes or in an adoption center.

Adopting a pet, volunteer Sabrina Todd said, saves two lives: the pet you adopt and that adoption opens a spot for another animal to be rescued.

P.A.W.S. also provides low-cost spay and neuter for animals. More information can be found on the P.A.W.S. website.

Donations of items are accepted at the thrift store which may include jewelry, clothes, pet supplies and other items. All proceeds from the thrift store go toward the aid of animal care, Sneddon said.

Customer Rob Woodgate said he likes the item selections in the store. Woodgate said he bought a jacket that he received many compliments on.

“I got the word out (about the store),” he said. “It’s a great little shop, very enjoyable.”

Woodgate said he previously volunteered with the Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, and he is very supportive of what P.A.W.S. does for cats and dogs.

At the store’s grand reopening, P.A.W.S. volunteers  brought about 10 dogs for adoption. Of that 10, four had new homes by 1 p.m. Saturday,Todd said. P.A.W.S. is in need of  volunteers to help at the store and with the animals, she said.

Interested volunteers can talk to someone at the thrift store or telephone 435-688-9748.
