March Mayhem All-Star game presents chance to see Region 9’s best 1 more time

ST. GEORGE — High school hoops fans can rejoice as the season isn’t quite over. Saturday’s March Mayhem All-Star game will give everyone a chance to see their favorite senior players one more time.

A full day of activities is planned for Saturday, including a youth camp, a coaches wheelchair charity game, 3-point shootout, slam dunk competition, girls all-star game and the crown jewel of the day, the boys 3A all-star game, all at Dixie High School.

The boys game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will feature a heavy dose of players from the three Region 9 teams that made the state semifinals. Champion Pine View will be represented by four seniors, 3A MVP Kody Wilstead, Chaz Peterson, Garrett Bowker and Jed Newby. The 3A runner-up, Dixie, will bring RJ Wilgar, Jake Hawes and Izaic Blazzard. Desert Hills, which lost in the semifinals in quadruple overtime to the Flyers, will be repped by Quincy Mathews, Austin Adams, Max Mills and Tanner Leishman.

Other Region 9 seniors on the boys all-star team are Cedar’s Kyle Wood and Ben Brown, Hurricane’s James Bennion and Ausetn Beatty, Snow Canyon’s Kade Potter and Canyon View’s Sterling Barnes. The Region 9 team will be coached by Patrick Amico.

The Region 9 stars will play a selection of all-stars from southern Nevada which includes Torrance Littles from Foothill, Romello Jones from Green Valley, Nick Korniek from Coronado, David McKeever from Rancho, Brett Meci from Shadow Ridge, Terrell Walker from Cimarron, Jordan Davis from Canyon Springs and a trio of players from Quest Prep in LaQuan Hawkins, Tay Bell and Phil Beck.

The boys will participate in a slam dunk competition and 3-point shooting contest at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, just prior to the boys all-star games.

allstarThe girls all-star game is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will feature Region 9’s best seniors against a selection of other all-stars from around central and southern Utah.

Admission for the all-star games and other competitions is six dollars for adults, four dollars for students and three dollars for students with school ID.

Along with the evening games Saturday, there are events scheduled throughout the day, including a camp/clinic from 9-11 a.m. featuring former NBA player Robert Smith, plus individual instruction from the all-star players themselves.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be a Safe Kids Utah car seat safety check point in the parking lot, followed by a Car Guys Care car show (2-5 p.m.), titled the March Mayhem Show and Shine.” Also at 2 p.m. is the Believe for Britton Region 9 coaches wheelchair charity game.

At halftime of the boys all-star game, The Vault Dance Group will perform.

The entire event is presented by Desert Sports Management, ESPN SportsRadio 106.1 FM and The Arc of Washington County, which provided aid for the county’s special needs community.
