CEDAR CITY – A 35-year-old Cedar City man was arrested Thursday after the FBI learned of illicit photos on his Pinterest account. This led to the discovery of more than 100 child pornography images on the man’s personal computer.
Adam Douglas Gifford, who lives on DL Sargent Drive in Cedar City, was charged with 10 second-degree felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Each count carries with it a possible one- to 15-year prison sentence.
The Cedar City Police Department was notified by the FBI’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force about a week ago that Gifford had posted sexually explicit images on a Pinterest message board, Cedar City Police Sgt. Jerry Womack said.
“They were the ones that tipped us off to it,” he said. “They went to his house just to do a ‘knock and talk,’ and while they were there, he consented to let the officers look at his cellphone.”
Based on what they saw at the scene, Womack said, the officers were concerned enough to request an on-site warrant to seize Gifford’s home computer and search its contents.
A forensics exam led to the discovery of multiple images of child pornography, Womack said.
Gifford was taken into custody at about 7:28 p.m. Thursday and was booked into the Iron County Jail.
Bail is set at $20,000, cash or bond. As of Saturday at 3:30 p.m., Gifford is still in custody.
