ST. GEORGE — The annual heritage fireside,”Faith in Every Footstep,” will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at the St. George Tabernacle, 18 S. Main Street in St. George, featuring the Southern Utah Heritage Choir.
All are welcome during this stirring celebration. The Heritage Choir will feature music and the spoken word that will honor the great sacrifices of the early settlers of St. George and the Southern Utah area. The choir will perform favorites such as “Be thou My Vision,” “Give Me Jesus,” “Faith in Every Footstep,” and Mack Wilberg’s magnificent arrangement of “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.”
Dr. Nancy Allred, director of the Heritage Choir, is delighted to share conducting responsibilities with Dr. Ken Peterson, who was recently named associate director of the choir.
Peterson is the director of vocal activities at Dixie State University in St. George where he teaches voice and voice related courses and serves as the music director for the university musicals. He received his Bachelor of Music in voice performance from Utah State University, his Master of Music in voice performance from Illinois State University, and earned his doctorate in arts in voice performance and pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado.
An accomplished conductor and an awarded music director of the musical stage, Peterson has been an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing for 24 years and is a published researcher in the field of vocal pedagogy. As a singer, tenor Peterson has performed throughout the United States in recitals, concerts, musical theater and opera.
The choir is preparing a very busy season of concerts, firesides, and performing tours. On March 8, the choir will present a spring fireside, “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” with guest speakers Susan Easton Black and George Durrant. Other performances include a concert in the Cox Auditorium on April 10 with award-winning soprano Lisa Hopkins Seegmiller, a performance for the Boy Scouts of America in the Burns Arena, a tour to San Diego in May, and the annual Flag Day Concert on June 14.
