LA VERKIN — A 43-year-old St. George man was arrested Thursday after police discovered he had a felony warrant in Nevada and was in possession of multiple illegal drugs.
On Thursday morning, La Verkin Police Officer Amber Crouse conducted a traffic stop on a speeding truck at the intersection of State Street and Center Street, Crouse wrote in a probable cause statement supporting the arrest.
After speaking with the driver, Crouse identified him as Christopher Defalco, of St. George.
After checking the man’s information, Crouse discovered that Defalco had an active felony warrant for his arrest out of North Las Vegas Justice Court for possession of a controlled substance, the statement said. Defalco was asked to exit the truck and searched by the officers.
Inside Defalco’s left front pocket, the officers found a spoon with burnt residue on it, Crouse said in the statement. When asked if there was anything inside the truck, Defalco said there were syringes inside.
“I located several syringes in multiple locations throughout the vehicle,” Crouse said in the statement. “I then located a bag of (a) green leafy substance in the trunk.”
Defalco told officers that the substance inside the syringes was heroin, the statement said. Inside Defalco’s wallet, Crouse also found two small baggies that Defalco said was heroin.
Because the arrest took place within 1,000 feet of La Verkin Elementary School, a drug-free zone, all drug charges against Defalco were enhanced by one degree, the statement said.
Defalco was arrested and booked into Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility. He is charged with two second-degree felonies for his out-of-state warrant and possession of heroin; one third-degree felony for possession of marijuana; one class A misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia; and one class C misdemeanor for speeding. His bail for release is set at $15,000.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Dang junkie.
Gosh darn sniffers
LOL.! Is the hospital a drug free zone.?
I wish I had known about these “drug free zones” in Washington county when we moved here. I would have moved closer to a school! And all my kids are grown thank goodness! Ol’ Pike and Herbert had better get a game plan together to try to stop the drugs coming into Utah. Quickly becoming a blue, left wing liberal, drug infested hole. I probably won’t stay here forever. I left salt lake cause of this kind of stuff. And I am not even LDS!
