Woman struck by car outside Habit Burger; STGNews Videocast

ST. GEORGE — A woman was transported to the hospital Wednesday after being hit by a car as it pulled out of a parking space in the Red Rock Commons shopping center in St. George.

At approximately 12:13 p.m., officials received a call that a person had been hit by a car outside of the Habit Burger restaurant, located at 15 N. River Road in Red Rock Commons, St. George Police Sgt. Richard Triplett said. Members of the St. George Fire Department responded to the scene by 12:16 p.m. and shut down the area of the parking lot where the incident occurred.

After arriving on scene, investigators concluded that the woman — believed to be in her mid-50s or 60s — was walking in the parking lot when a person driving a 2012 Nissan Rogue reversed out of a parking space and hit her, Triplett said.

Gold Cross Ambulance and the St. George Police Department also responded to the scene, Triplett said.

The woman sustained injuries to her leg and was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center.

The Fire Department reopened the parking lot to traffic by 12:45 p.m.

Triplett cautioned that people need to remember to be cautious when driving, even if they are just in a parking lot. Take the time to check the area and ensure everything is safe, he said.

No citations were given to the driver of the Nissan, Triplett said.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement as the investigation continues. It may not contain the full scope of findings.

A word to the wise. That ambulance ride from point A to point B most likely cost several hundred dollars. Take 2 aspirin and call a taxi or a family member or a friend or a passerby. In the long run, to do so will be far less painful.

Of course a ride in any ambulance is going to cost money. Thank you for pointing that out… Also can you please explain how walking, riding in a taxi or with a friend to the ER will be less painful.. Let’s break your leg and see if you refuse care…

Had a friend years ago who was too cheap for an ambulance ride. He had chest pains while mowing his lawn – insisted his wife drive him to the hospital. His funeral was three days later!

Will the drivers insurance have to pay for the ride in an ambulance and hospital bill?

“A woman was transported to the hospital Wednesday after being hit by a car as it pulled out of a parking space.” The higher profile the car the more difficult it is to see them not to mention since moving to Utah I have had many people walk right past me without even looking as I am pulling out or am partially pulled out.

As the driver of the motor vehicle, YOU are responsible for making sure you will not be hitting anything before you move your car. If you are driving a vehicle that you can’t see out of, you’d best swap to one that you can see out of.
Sure people walk just like they drive. With their heads up their rear ends. But regardless of that, you have to be in control of your car.
