MESQUITE, Nevada — Hundreds of people mingled and strolled among at least 800 classic cars, hot rods, street rods and more that filled the parking lots of hotels and casinos Saturday for the annual Mesquite Motor Mania 2015 car show.

The classic car show continues through Sunday afternoon at several participating hotels and casinos including CasaBlanca, Eureka, Virgin River and the old Oasis casino. The car show began Friday and will continue through Sunday.

This is the 6th year of the annual car show, said Billy Hollimon, a member of the Las Vegas Cruising Association. Since its inception, the popularity and participation of Mesquite Motor Mania has grown immensely, he said.

“It’s been a blast,” Hollimon said. “We’ve been growing in leaps and bounds. We have three times the cars we had last year and people are here from as far as Alaska.”

Mary Alice Krause, of Minnesota, had just arrived at the car show with her partner and said she just likes looking at the cars.

“My partner was in the car business so he’s quite interested in the cars,” Krause said. Her favorite one so far? “I kind of like that little orange baby right there,” she said with a laugh.

Lisa Meyer is a member of the Las Vegas Cruising Association which organizes this event and others held throughout the year.

Standing next to Archie Kahele, also a member, Meyers said that people are attracted to this event because of the positive energy that the members of the association promote.

“We’ve had a great turn out– a lot busier today than yesterday,” Meyer said. “We encourage people to come out. Tomorrow we have the awards ceremony. There’s people’s choice, ladies’ choice, even kids can vote.”

The car show will continue through Sunday until 2 p.m., when participants will gather at the Casablanca for the awards ceremony.

We went to the car show and it was kind of boring most of the cars were just the same old repeats of the previous car shows. we spent about 45 minute’s looking at a few newer entries and that was it. the rest were just reruns of the last 3 or 4 shows. after all how many times do you need to see the same car over and over again. no pun intended but it’s really becoming a drag. We’re done with the car shows for awhile its getting old now

From the pictures it looks like a car and dinosaur show with old dinosaurs walking around the parking lots looking at the old cars.

So don’t bother to go to them. No one will care. As for the dinosaur comment, being a dinosaur myself, I find it kind of humorous. 🙂

    The show was a joke

The only ones that paid to get in were the folks that entered the cars. If you didn’t see anything new you didn’t know what you were looking at. I drove one of my old cars down, but did not have the time this year to enter, but I sure enjoyed the time I spent looking at those that did. It is not easy to find that much free entertainment anymore, and most of the money raised is for charity. Thanks Vegas Cruisers, but I guess car shows are just not for everybody. Great cars and the girl watching was good too! Another Geezer.
