CEDAR CITY – Cedar City band Bottled Monkey has announced a release party for their third CD, the self-titled “Bottled Monkey.” The free event will be held at Groovacious Records Feb. 6, from 7-8:30 p.m. Groovacious Records is located at 173 N. 100 West in Cedar City. The release party will feature a live performance by the band, CDs and other merchandise.

Bottled Monkey was formed in 2009 with Brian Hoover, Iron County Sheriff’s Deputy Chuck Triplett and musician Shawn Owens. The original lineup of the band released the album “Sing no Evil” in 2010 and sold out every copy.

The band has been on temporary hiatus since January 2013, when singer Brian Hoover was diagnosed with brain cancer and underwent aggressive treatment.

“There’s always been something that’s happened since we’ve been doing this,” Triplett said. “Last time we recorded, I was in Iraq. The brain cancer thing was a whole different thing. We thought he was going to die. It was rough. But we were excited when he told us he wanted to keep going. We took six to eight months off to let him decide.”

In the summer of 2014, Hoover played his first show after his diagnosis and treatment. The band played a celebrated set at Cedar City’s Groovefest Music and Art Festival, then took a break from live performances and intently focused on recording the upcoming album.

On the third album, the band took a new direction focusing on the recorded product, adding layers of keyboards and other unique instrumentation including tenor guitar and ukulele. The new album, recorded completely at Bottled Monkey Studios in Enoch, was mixed by local musician Steven Swift.

A video of the first single “Steady As You Go” was filmed by Kipp Howard, a local filmmaker, and is available at www.bottledmonkeymusic.com.

In 2011, the band changed their lineup and enlisted drummer Dennis Green. In 2012, while Triplett was away at war in Iraq, the band finished recording their second album “Hallowed Ground.”  A press kit, complete biography and photos are available on the band’s website.
