Widlund, George obit(November 10, 1928 – December 27, 2014)

George Alexander Widlund, 86, passed away Friday, December 27, 2014. He was born November 10, 1928, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to his mother, Hilma Kristina Åkerblom, and father, Alexander William Herbert Widlund. He married Mary Jean Mejia July 20, 1962, in the Logan Utah Temple.

George grew up in the Avenues of Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from East High School and attended the University of Utah afterward. He and his father built the home where he and his wife raised their three children. He was a drafter for Cudahy Meat Packing Company for 17 years.  Later he worked for the University of Utah Medical Center doing refrigeration and maintenance. His final job was with Mountain Fuel of Salt Lake City. George loved skiing, fishing, and old cars.

George is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Mejia of St. George, Utah; his daughters, Lisa Widlund Belliston and Susan Widlund Taylor (Bart) of St. George, Utah; his son, Mark Widlund of Salt Lake City, Utah; and his three granddaughters, Sierra, and Kayla and Gina Taylor. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Lily Margaret Widlund Sheen and Mary Harriet Widlund Schow.

Funeral Services

  • The dedication of the grave and interment will be Friday, Jan. 2, at 1 p.m. at the Mount Olivet Cemetery at 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.

George’s family would like to thank Seasons Health and Rehabilitation and the nurses and staff for the care and comfort they gave George.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at 595 South Bluff Street #4, St. George, Utah 84770.
