Jean Gubler Cox

obit(March 3, 1924 – December 21, 2014)

Our angel mother and grandmother, Jean Gubler Cox, completed her mission here on earth Sunday, December 21, 2014. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born on March 3, 1924, in Santa Clara, Utah, to Jennie Lou Emma Laub and Martin Jacob Gubler. She grew up in Santa Clara, Ivins and St. George, and enjoyed the heritage of being a descendant of one of the original 13 Swiss families that settled Santa Clara.
At the onset of World War II, Jean moved to Salt Lake City and helped in the war effort by working at Hill Air Force Base in Clearfield, Utah. At the end of the war, Jean returned home to St. George, where she met her eternal sweetheart, Robert Edgar Cox. They were married February 8, 1947, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized soon after in the St. George Utah Temple.

Jean worked alongside her husband, Bob, at their family business, Bob’s Garage, as a bookkeeper, until their retirement in 1981. She was an incredible homemaker and mother and with Bob, created a loving home where their children flourished and grew into responsible citizens. Jean loved her Heavenly Father and served valiantly in ward and stake leadership positions and numerous other callings. She was very creative, an accomplished artist, seamstress, and cook. However, her greatest gift was in her compassionate service and friendship to all – young and old alike. Jean’s influence extended to all who had the blessing of knowing her, and will continue to bless her posterity for generations to come. She was truly an example of Christ-like love.

Jean is survived by her brother, Glen (Loya) Gubler, and six of her children, all of St. George, unless otherwise noted: Robert W. (Ann) Cox; Janice (Mario) Halter of Dallas, Oregon; Ilene (Wayne) Torgerson; Dean (LaRene) Cox; Sharlene (Gary) Cornwell; and Andrew (Wendy) Cox.

She was preceded in death by her sweetheart and husband of 53 years, Robert; daughter, Janet; parents, Jennie Lou Emma and Martin Jacob Gubler; and brothers and sisters: Lloyd Gubler, Winnie Hepworth, LaPrele Orton, Grant Gubler, Ted Gubler, Kahl Gubler, and Lorraine Gubler.
