Yvonne Bauer Ashman

Ashman, Yvonne obit(January 20, 1938 – December 8, 2014)

Yvonne Bauer Ashman, 76, passed away with family surrounding her, on the evening of December 8, 2014. She was born in Cedar City, Utah, on January 20, 1938, to Ernest Washington and Viola Belle Slack Bauer. She married Nolan Ashman on April 13, 1956, in the St. George Temple and was married for 58 years.

Yvonne was raised and educated in Cedar City, attending East Elementary, Cedar Junior High School and Cedar High School. She was an accomplished Cello player, certified dental assistant, reading specialist at Woodward Fifth and Sixth Grade Center and secretary in the Washington County School District, serving at Panorama Elementary then retiring from Sandstone Elementary in June 2008.

Yvonne was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints until her declining health rendered her unable to do so. She served in many callings in the primary and young women auxiliaries. She also served in the relief society as a visiting teacher and coordinator as well as president of the 9th Ward Relief Society. Yvonne later became a relief society instructor and librarian and finally, chapel librarian at the 700 South Chapel.

She was an accomplished seamstress, even creating her own wedding gown. Yvonne had an extensive doll collection, hoarded Ensign Magazines, was a chef of distinction and walked five miles every day with her good friend, Ivone. She had an eye for fashion and was always stylish with her hair and dress.

Yvonne was a mother of four devoted and caring daughters; Alicia (St. George),  Nicole (St. George), Michele (Sandy) and Erika (Draper). She is a grandmother of 18 and great grandmother of 11. Every member of her family was equally significant to her; she loved them and they adored her. She is survived by sisters, Aileen and Jean, and brother, Allen.

Yvonne was deeply devoted and loved her family and church. She will be remembered most for her elegance and kindness, which she presented in a quiet, reserved but impressive manner. She endured her Alzheimer’s disease with dignity and grace to her final breath.
