HURRICANE – A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 100 East and State Street in Hurricane Sunday evening shut down westbound traffic for a time as responders worked to clear the scene.

Around 5:45 p.m., a 2005 Hyundai Tucson, traveling northbound on 100 East through the intersection, collided with a westbound 2008 Jeep Wrangler towing a flat-bed utility trailer carrying stucco materials, Hurricane City Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said.

The impact caused the Wrangler to roll and spill the contents of the utility trailer across the intersection before coming to a stop. The Tucson came to a stop in the front yard of a residence, Buell said.

A power pole and stop sign were also struck by the vehicles as a result of the collision.

A part of the intersection was shut down for about an hour following the crash, Buell said. The majority of the intersection was reopen by 7:20 p.m. with the exception of one westbound lane still being cleared of debris at the time.

None of the individuals involved in the crash were harmed, Buell said. The driver of the Tucson, a juvenile female, along with a juvenile male passenger, were both wearing seatbelts when the crash occurred. The occupants of the Wrangler, a 21-year-old male driver and his passengers, a juvenile male and female, were also wearing seatbelts and escaped injury.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

The driver of the Tucson was cited by police for failing to yield the right-of-way, Buell said.

Agencies that responded to the accident included the Hurricane City Police Department, Hurricane Fire and Ambulance, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Hurricane Streets Department and Utah Department of Transportation.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

I guess this little spill was more news worthy than the horrific crash Saturday at 3400w and state st. in Hurricane about 7:00 pm. Serious injury’s or death.
I guess you people take Sat. night off.
