Wintch, Erma Obit(May 6, 1926 – November 14, 2014)

Erma Wintch peacefully passed away Friday, November 14, 2014, at the Beehive Home in St. George, Utah.

Erma was born in Tropic, Utah, on May 6, 1926, to Samuel and Emily Pollock. She spent most of her life in Tropic; this is where she and her sweetheart, Dean Charles Wintch, grew up. They were married in the St. George LDS Temple, April 28, 1944. They were blessed with four children, Dennis Dean (Sharon) Wintch of Elk Ridge, Utah, Valerie (Don) Grimmer of Orem, Utah, Paula (LeRoy) Hughes of St. George, Utah and Sharon Kay (Gordon) Pollock of Tropic, Utah. She was blessed to have 20 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Emily Pollock; husband, Dean Charles Wintch and her siblings: Herman (Zora Bell) Pollock, Ilan (Nida) Pollock, Viginia (Jeff) Gjevre, Nina (Royal) Alvey, Afton (Del Rae) Pollock, Alice Pollock, Mae (Jack) Chynoweth, VerDean (Mike) Skelly and LaMoine (Jaleen) Pollock. Also by brother-in-law, Kent J. (Betty) Wintch and sisters-in-law, Mary (Milton) Wells and Jillyn Woodbury.

She is survived by sisters-in-law, Joann (Ron) Otteson, Hannah (Jim) Goulding, Suzanne (Royce) Griffin and brothers-in-law, Michael (Judy) Wintch and Merrill (Judy) Woodbury.

Wintch, Erma YMom was a great cook, she also loved music, and she could play anything on the piano by ear. She loved to garden and she grew beautiful roses.

Mom and Dad, along with her sister, Mae and brother-in-law, Jack Chynoweth, built and ran the one and only show house in Tropic. In her thirties she went to school to become a beautician, she did this most of her adult life.

Mom was also a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She used her talents in her many callings. She and Dad served in the St. George temple for 2 ½ years.

Mom’s greatest calling was that of being a wonderful Mother.

The Family would like to thank the owners and staff of the Beehive Home for the tender love and care of our Mother for nearly three years.

Funeral Services

  • A viewing will be held Friday, Nov. 21, from 5-7 p.m. in the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah.
  • A graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. in the Tropic Town Cemetery, Tropic, Utah.

    So sorry to hear of Aunt Erma’s Passing. She was a sweet aunt and I have many happy memories.

    So many memories of Erm, playing cards, sharing meals, sitting on the porch, & generally enjoying life across the street from her & Dean. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
