ST. GEORGE – Life Flight crews were called in to assist in a bicycle accident at the Bear Claw Poppy Trailhead in the Bloomington area of St. George Friday afternoon.
A group of bicyclists were riding the trail when a man flipped over his handlebars and landed on his head, Lee Cabell, firefighter for the St. George Fire Department, said.
“It looked like he hit his head and jammed his neck, but he still had feeling in his arms and legs,” Cabell said. “We’re hoping everything will be fine.”
Because of the nature of the accident, the potential injuries and the location, Life Flight was called in as a precaution and to help locate the accident site, but the man was ultimately transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center by Gold Cross Ambulance.
“In the air, they can locate the patient a lot quicker if they know how to get geometric locations,” Cabell said. “Out here, there’s no addresses or anything, so people are kind of trying to get GPS coordinates on their phone or trying to describe the trail.”
The group had started riding in the Santa Clara area and were near the end of the trail in Bloomington when the accident happened.
St. George Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance and Life Flight all responded to the accident.
