Jerold Frank Flannery, returned peacefully to his Father in Heaven on November 2, 2014. His family had the opportunity to share expressions of love and tenderness as he fought a continuous battle to spend just one more day with them.
Born March 27, 1926 to an Irish immigrant William Bernard and Alice Herzog Flannery, Jerry lived his life in Salt Lake City where he attended East High School. He was a gifted athlete and played many sports, but baseball was his passion. In 1944, he chose to defend his Country and joined the United States Navy, where he served as a Pharmacist’s Mate on the USS Roi until 1946. Jerry a true patriot and made many lifelong friends while enlisted in the Navy, and always liked watching them beat Army in football.
He married Barbara June Speirs on March 4, 1948, and raised five children; they later divorced. Jerry married Doralee Player Forbes on March 17, 1975, and lived in the Willow Creek area for almost forty years, where they made and cherished many friendships. They were proud of their home and magnificent yard, where Willow Creek and Little Cottonwood Creeks met. They were U of U fans extraordinaire, season ticket holders and Crimson Club supporters for many years – even prior to the domination of the southern school. Jer loved the Boston Red Sox almost as much as his Irish heritage.
He worked and made many friends at Strevel-Pattersons after which he started his own Rep Company, Professional Sales Associates. Jerry served many years as the President of the Pot and Kettle Club where reputation and hard work identified his expertise in sales. Golf, tennis, hunting and fishing where things he loved doing with his family. A peacemaker, he longed to have his family stay close, and never sided with one against another.
If grief is the cost of love, then it’s no wonder why so many are deeply saddened with his parting. His principles and integrity in business along with the legacy his posterity offers, is but a small part of the epitaph that he leaves for us. Preceded in death by his parents: William Bernard and Alice Flannery; brother: Bernie (Dorothy) Flannery; sisters: Patricia Eskridge and Dorothy (Adam) Hoefling; grandsons; Connor Mark Flannery and Barbars Speirs Flannery.
He is survived by his wife Dodie Flannery of St. George; daughters: Kathleen (Doug) Hurst of Ogden, UT, Claudia (Mike) Carlson of Kaysville, UT; sons: Mark (Becky) Flannery of Centerville, Utah, Kevin (Tami) Flannery of North Salt Lake, UT; Bryan (Carolee) Flannery of Farmington, UT, Steve (Betsy) Forbes of Phoenix, and Scott Forbes of Sandy, UT; twenty-seven grandchildren and forty-five great grandchildren plus many wonderful friends and neighbors. It’s a Father’s dream to have all his family close and loving; that dream is now in our hands – we already miss you.
Funeral Services
- Funeral services will be on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. at the LDS Willow Creek 9th Ward Chapel, 2350 East Creek Road, Sandy, Utah.
- Visitations will be held Thursday, Nov. 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah and on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. prior to services, at the chapel.
- Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
