Stay-at-home moms support group hosts first meeting, discusses play dates, charities

WAHINGTON COUNTY – Are you a stay-at-home mom? Are you looking for support in your choice to stay home and raise your kids? Do you want to do fun and interesting things in your city with mothers who share common goals and desires? Do you want to make an impact locally with charities chosen by you and women like you? And, perhaps most importantly, do you want your children to be with you? If so, MOMS club of Washington County is for you.

MOMS Club of Washington County is a new support group designed for stay-at-home moms to be able to meet with like-minded mothers that want to support one another in their mothering journeys as well as provide opportunity for them and their children to learn and play together.

The new club is part of an international nonprofit organization, MOMS Club International, that, according to its website, is the first, largest and fastest growing support organization specifically for at-home mothers.

There are over 2,000 chapters, Washington County chapter founder Megan Juker said.

Juker recently moved here from Iron County, she said, where there was a MOMS club chapter that had been organized and active for a little over a year.

Finding no chapter here in Washington County, but wanting the support, Juker organized a local chapter that has been gathering for play dates for about three weeks now, she said.

The outings have been met with support by group members who applaud the group for its ability to organize activities that allow mothers and their children a chance to mingle and play.

“I am excited about the club because it is an established organization that we can rely on for great activities and ideas,” group member Jaylyn Theobald said. “The activities so far have been very fun and have provided a great way to get out and meet other moms while offering the kids engaging activities and the opportunity to interact with each other.”

Ruth Batt of Washington City loves the club because of the opportunity it provides her to approach and meet other moms who might be alone, she said. Batt has been enjoying twice-weekly play dates at local parks with the group and said that now is the time to take advantage of the good weather and get outdoors with other moms.

One of the important aspects of the club is the charity work they do, Juker said. MOMS Club International is a registered nonprofit charity organization that gives local chapters the ability to fundraise and support local charities of their choosing.

In the year that the MOMS Club of Iron County has been organized, they have raised approximately $6,000 for local charities, Juker said, charities that support moms and kids within their own community.

Monday will mark the first official meeting of the Washington County chapter which will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room of the Washington City Community Center, 350 North Community Center Drive in Washington City.  At the meeting, they will plan future play dates and classes, hear from Iron County club representatives and discuss which charities they want to support and how.

The meeting is free to attend and children are welcome, Juker said. Though the group caters to stay-at-home moms, they are an inclusive group, and all mothers are welcome. There is a $20 per year membership fee to become an official member of the group but, Juker said, they also have an income waiver for those who struggle financially.

“We are not going to turn anyone away,” Juker said.

Staying at home with kids is a hard job. Maybe they should break it up by getting an outside the home job and make dad “babysit” his kids sometimes. Oh wait…. the dads here get a trophy “babysitting” their own kids. Never seen so many men not want their wives to work because then they would have to watch their own kids. Case in point …hunting season, which starts in August and ends in November. Heaven forbid he can’t take off whenever he pleases. Poor girls here…have no idea that some men actually think our sex is amazing in so many ways, not just for making children and taking care of HIM.

Really? You need a support group to be a stay at home mom. Is it because you are so frustrated with your life that you are forced to stay home with your kids while your husband gets to do whatever he wants while your stuck at home with these screaming kids? Get a part time job, at night, when he’s home so he can feed them dinner and put them to bed and you get a break. Cuz, I see no other reason to have a support group for a stay at home mom except that your husband ain’t around to help with the kids.

You got it ladybug avenger. These guys have been raised by women who teach them they are the masters of the universe. All they have to do is serve a mission then “pick” their wife as if they have anyone they want. Participation with the children after that is optional, and what they are too busy to do their mothers do for them. Narcissistic spoiled grown children. Move away from here ladies….. This is not the norm.

What an awesome idea! I have a couple of friends in other states who are stay-at-home moms (and one fantastic stay-at-home dad!), and this sounds like it could be really fun. This reminds me of the groups that they form for home-schooled children so they can plan group activities and field trips. My mom was a stay-at-home, and it was wonderful to have her there at the house all the time, so I really hope this group works out well b/c I can totally appreciate what these ladies are doing!

Dixie guys treat their women like they are property. I don’t get the subservient role that these women seem to accept as well as expect other women to abide by. Now get back in the kitchen and make me a sammich.
