ST. GEORGE — Desert Hills allowed just 51 yards, but needed a late third quarter touchdown to defeat Snow Canyon 7-3 Wednesday night at Thunder Stadium.
Bridger Cowdin rushed for 180 yards and the Thunder held Snow Canyon to minus-8 yards rushing in the game.
Neither team scored until late in the third quarter. Snow Canyon, after an interception by Kam Perkins, finally broke the scoreless tie with a 25-yard field goal by Kolton Barber with 2:09 left in the third.
Desert Hills answered with a quick drive. Cowdin rushed 75 yards from the DH 20 to the SC 5-yard line. Two plays later, Nick Warmsley stretched the ball across the goal line for what would be the only TD of the game.
Snow Canyon’s only other scoring threat came up empty after a missed 40-yard field goal try with 7:32 left in the game.
Give Snow Canyon credit,” Desert Hills coach Carl Franke said. “It was a defensive battle like it is every year between us. The defense came to play tonight. We had something to prove defensively because of last week’s performance.”
The Thunder clinched the victory when, with under two minutes left, Gabe Sewell pushed forward for a 6-yard gain on fourth-and-inches, which allowed DH to run out the clock.
Desert Hills, 8-1 overall and 4-1 in region play, travels to Hurricane next Friday. Snow Canyon, 4-5 and 2-3, hosts Dixie next week.
