ST. GEORGE – St. George Police are searching for a man who broke into the Dixie Center, located at 1835 S. Convention Center Dr., in St. George early Wednesday morning and attempted to steal an ATM machine from the lobby.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., St. George Police officers responded to the reported burglary after an employee at the Dixie Center walked into the front lobby area and observed a man on a forklift attempting to remove the ATM.
When the man saw the Dixie Center employee, he ran out the front doors, according to a St. George Police press statement. The employee immediately contacted the police.
Officers checked the building and were unable to locate any sign of forced entry, the statement said. At this time it is unknown how the suspect made entry into the building, according to the police. There was extensive damage to the ATM and floor where it was mounted.
Detectives are working with the Dixie Center to review surveillance and process evidence.
