ST. GEORGE — Two men were arrested for aggravated robbery Friday following a police investigation.
The investigation began on Sept. 28 when police responded to a report of a robbery in which a handgun had been used, Sgt. Sam Despain, of the St. George Police Department, said.
The robbery victim told officials that Brandon Behrle, of St. George, and Matthew Stearns, also of St. George, were hanging out at the victim’s house when an argument erupted over some money. During the course of the argument, a handgun was allegedly produced and the men took approximately $500 from the victim.
“We believe … it was Brandon (Behrle) who had the handgun,” Despain said. “But Matthew (Stearns) had knowledge of the handgun as well.”
Stearns and Behrle both fled the scene following the incident, Despain said.
After a police investigation was conducted, both men were arrested and charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery. Stearns was also charged with third-degree felony possession of marijuana, which he had at the time of his arrest.
In addition to the robbery charge, Behrle was also booked on an outstanding warrant.
Both men were booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility. Stearns’ bail stands at $12,500 and Behrle’s bail stands at $10,598. Both men remain in custody at the time of this publication.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
