PAROWAN – A semitrailer truck hauling slabs of granite lost its load on Interstate 15 Friday afternoon near Parowan.
The granite slabs shattered as they hit the pavement, covering the travel lanes just north of the Parowan exit, about milepost 78.
The frame supporting the granite slabs appears to have buckled about 4:30 p.m., investigators say, according to a statement issued by Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Dougherty. Fortunately, he said, the semi driver had just entered the freeway and was traveling only about 30 mph when the incident happened. No other vehicles were damaged.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers were able to clear some debris from the emergency lane and routed traffic to that lane. The Utah Department of Transportation responded quickly to the scene and cleared the rest of the debris within 20 minutes of arriving.
The semi driver was cited for failure to secure a load, an equipment violation and possibly other violations.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

The granite still on the truck looks like a hazard. Looks like a good-ol’-boy, home done tie down job…
The shards will show up at the DI in about a week, where they will be grossly overpriced by the incompetent staff who act as though they had to purchase inventory with their own money and who forget that all the overpriced JUNK they sell there is donated for FREE…
