It was an eventful night in Region 9 soccer, with Desert Hills scoring a dramatic last-minute victory over region-leader Dixie, Snow Canyon securing at worst a tie for second and possibly a share of the region crown and Pine View clinching a playoff spot.

Over at Walt Brooks Stadium, Madi Hansen netted home the only goal of the game — and it came in the game’s final 40 seconds — as Desert Hills surprised Dixie with a 1-0 road win. Kaley Brooksby pitched the shutout in goal and Desert Hills proved itself the hottest team in the region with its fifth straight victory, 1-0 over the Flyers.

soccerIt was Hansen’s third goal of the season, while Brooksby secured her sixth shutout of 2014. D-Hills, now 10-4-0 overall and 8-3-0 in region, is now in third place, three points behind Dixie and Snow Canyon. Dixie fell to 11-4-0 and 9-2-0.

The Warriors got a key home win in their final game of the regular season, dropping Cedar 2-1. Mishayla Faucett scored her ninth goal of the year and Brooklyn Wood notched her second of the season as SC closes its season 11-5-0 overall and 9-3-0 in region. The Warriors have a bye Thursday, with hopes that Dixie drops a game at Canyon View. If that happens, the two teams would tie for first.

Cedar, 9-6-0 and 7-4-0, has lost three straight and only scored one goal in that stretch.

Meanwhile, Pine View clinched the fifth playoff spot from the region with a 2-0 shutout of Hurricane. The Panthers, 5-9-0 and 4-7-0, got goals from Shaniece Lourenco and Aubrey Day.

Thursday’s season finale has Dixie at Canyon View, Hurricane at Desert Hills and Cedar battling Pine View.
