Glendale Apple Festival features ‘juicy’ events, competitions, prizes

KANE COUNTY — Community members and apple lovers are invited to attend  the 16th Annual Glendale Apple Festival Friday through Saturday in Glendale on Highway 89.

The Apple Festival celebrates the production, harvest and sale of apple products, handicrafts and games and culminates with a large community banquet dinner at the town park. The Apple Festival is an opportunity to showcase and share the rich heritage of Long Valley.

The Apple Festival will begin with a Battle of the Bands at the Kane County Event Center at the Carroll Arena in Orderville. Bands will be competing for $200 in prize money, and will be judged by both the audience and a panel of judges. If your band would like to enter, download an application from the event website.

Saturday will feature food and craft vendors selling a variety of goods you won’t want to miss, including, apples, apple cider and apple pies. Vendor village will be open at 10:00 am and will be located on Center Street and Highway 89 in Glendale. There will also be live entertainment featuring local talent throughout the day. If you love to run, come down to the VHS Cross Country Fundraiser 5K on Oct. 11. Registration will be at the Glendale Park at 7 a.m. The price is $10 to enter and race begins at 7:30 a.m. Support the cross country runners from VHS and enjoy the race.

There will also be a William Tell Archery Shoot at the Glendale Baseball Field on Saturday morning. Registration begins at 9:30am. Competitions with great prizes for archers of all ages will also be offered. Fees for competitors are $10 for archers 16 and older, $5 for ages 12-15, $3 for those under 11 and free to children under the age of seven.

Glendale Park will also be hosting multiple events including paintball games, apple pie eating contests and an apple cook-off.

A Dutch oven Dinner will also be available for $6 a plate and $3 a plate for kids ages 3-11. Children two and under eat free. Dinner will include Dutch oven chicken, potatoes, rolls and more. Live entertainment will also be provided.

After dinner, a raffle drawing will close out the night. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased at the Friday evening concert, as well as at the Glendale Town booth at Vendor Row on Saturday. Prizes include a handmade queen size quilt by HH Design, prizes from Sid’s Leather and Lace, Stampin’ Us and gift certificates local businesses.

Glendale is located on Highway 89 between Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park.
