HURRICANE — The Desert Roads and Trails Society had some fun Saturday while doing some good helping to keep Sand Mountain and Sand Hollow State Park open and clean on National Public Lands day.
The event, designed to show support and raise funds for the Sand Mountain (Sand Hollow) off-highway vehicle area, was a big success despite torrential downpours and flooding throughout the area.
“All that water made the trails more challenging,” Jeff Bieber, Desert RATS president said, “and more fun.”
The day started with a cleanup and trail rides at Sand Mountain. Approximately 25 vehicles participated in the cleanup, covering several Sand Mountain trails. Many bags of trash, along with larger items, were cleaned up and packed out by Jeeps and other 4×4 rigs to waiting dumpsters provided by the Bureau of Land Management.
Following the cleanup and trail rides, a raffle took place at the Washington County Fairgrounds with great off-road prizes. Proceeds from the event went to the Utah Public Lands Alliance to help keep the Sand Hollow OHV area open.
