ST. GEORGE — It was supposed to be an easy home win against a lower-tier team for Snow Canyon Tuesday night against Pine View. Instead, it was a defensive war with the Warriors gutting out a 1-0 overtime victory on a golden goal from Addie Smith.

Regardless of the way it was accomplished, Snow Canyon did get the win and the accompanying three points. That puts the Warriors at 7-1-0 in region, three points ahead of fellow contenders Cedar and Dixie.
The Flyers gained three points on the off day, Monday, by completing a game that was started earlier this month, but was suspended due to lightning and weather concerns. It was scoreless at the suspension, then the Tigers took a 1-0 lead early against the Flyers. But Dixie scored four unanswered goals to take the big win and improve to 8-3-0 overall and 6-1-0 in region, three points behind SC.
Cedar, meanwhile, pounded in eight goals against Hurricane Tuesday night in an 8-0 win. Holly Carpenter and Nicole Jenkins each scored two goals and Shay Baumann got her 11th career shutout. Cedar also got goals from Ashley Jenkins, Brooklyn Shakespeare, Mia Smith and Rachel Hunt. Cedar is 8-3-0 and 6-1-0.
Desert Hills beat Canyon View in the other Tuesday game with Brittany Terry, Kelly Luthy and Kenzie Done all scoring. Kaley Brooksby got the shutout as DH moves to 4-3-0 in region, solidly in playoff position.
Thursday’s region action has Canyon View at Cedar, Dixie at Pine View and Snow Canyon at Desert Hills.

Poor form on the part of “SG News”. That is a disrespectful story opener for two teams that battled very hard in what proved to be a great game. Not a very good way to instill confidence in a young PV team and yes I did read the entire story.
