ST. GEORGE – The Dixie State women’s volleyball team completed a weekend sweep of its first two conference opponents. After two weeks of playing nationally-ranked and talent-laden opponents on the road, DSU was able to return to friendlier environs to open its PacWest play.

Some teams tend to play down to the level of their opponents. But we maintained our play at a high level.”

The Red Storm hit .376 for the match, led by Edithza Urias with 10 kills. DSU spread the attack around with Maddie Rex adding nine and Kendahl Weiland picking up eight.

“It was a great offensive balanced attack,” said Felder. “Edithza not only led in kills, but the enthusiasm she brings to each match is infectious.”

In the Saturday afternoon match-up, the Red Storm dominated Dominican, sweeping in straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-19).

Urias again led the way with 13 kills while Rex also reached double-digits with 10 of her own. Nicole Koehler and Weiland logged nine apiece en route to the victory.

“It is great to get the conference play started with two wins,” said Felder. “With the talent within our conference, you cannot afford to have an off night if you want to contend with the leaders.”

Dixie moves to 5-5 on the season, 2-0 in the PacWest Conference. Dixie State will head back on the road for contests against Holy Names, Academy of Art and Notre Dame de Namur next week.

I bet men’s volleyball team don’t wear shorts like the women’s team.
