Thrills, spills, chances to win at 80th annual Dixie Roundup Rodeo

ST. GEORGE — Celebrating 80 years, the annual St. George Lions Dixie Roundup Rodeo rides into town Sept. 11-13 at the historic Dixie Sun Bowl in St. George.

This year’s rodeo, packed with events, begins Thursday, Sept. 11. Opening night is kids night and the ideal time to bring the whole family, as admission for children 11 and younger is free.

Friday night is “Pink Night,” and the rodeo continues its tradition of  donating the night’s proceeds to a special breast cancer fund at Dixie Regional Medical Center. Rodeo participants and audience members are encouraged to wear pink that night. The amount raised at Pink Night varies each year, but generally it is close to $10,000, according to information from the St. George Lions Club. Those who attend Pink Night are not only supporting breast health but are doing it locally.

The ever popular Dixie Roundup parade will take place Sept. 13 at 5 p.m., with floats and participants marching to the theme of “Roundin’ ‘Em Up for 80 Years.” A map of the parade route can be found here. On the same day, there will be a “Roundup Jr.” roping competition for 8th grade students and younger beginning at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $10 and is payable the day of the event, cash only.

The Ram Rodeo Series will be on display at the St. George Lions Club during the rodeo, Sept. 11-13. Earlier this year, one lucky rodeo fan from St. George was randomly selected as the 2013 winner and took home a brand new Ram 2500 by simply entering at the 2013 St. George Lions Dixie Roundup. This year’s attendees can also try their luck and enter to win at the 2014 rodeo.

While at the rodeo, attendees should visit the Ram Truck brand space to:

  • Enter the 2014 Ram Rodeo Sweepstakes for a chance to win $45,000 toward any eligible Chrysler Group vehicle
  • Check out the 2014 lineup of Ram pickup trucks courtesy of local Ram Truck brand dealerships
