Desert Hills 29, Legacy 14
ST. GEORGE — Desert Hills overcame first half gaffes to shut down the visiting Legacy Longhorns from Las Vegas, 29-14 Friday night at DHHS.
Bridger Cowdin had 125 yards rushing and Nephi Sewell scored twice, first on a 55-yard punt return, then 10 seconds later on a strip and 38-yard return to close out the first half. Sewell added an interception in the end zone with six minutes remaining to preserve the 15-point victory.
DH trailed 14-7 in the first half after giving up a long TD run and allowing a punt to be blocked for a score. But Sewell’s punt return for a TD cut it 14-13 and he gave the Thunder the lead for good later in the second quarter when he ripped the ball away from a defender and ran for another score.
Mason Palmer caught a TD pass from Nick Warmsley in the second half to seal the win.
Desert Hills, 3-0, hosts 3-0 Cedar next week to open region play. Legacy is 0-1. Stats: Thunder 29, Longhorns 14
