There are certainly flashier teams in 3A, but the defending-champion Dixie Flyers don’t care much about flash. They just want to keep winning.
And win they did Thursday night, capturing a 1-0 nailbiter over one of the top contenders in the region, Snow Canyon.
Starlee Woodbury had the lone goal in the game. After a scoreless first half, Woodbury hit the eventual game-winner and goalkeeper Taylor Whitson and the Dixie defense made it stand up.
The win moves Dixie to 2-0-0 in region and 4-2-0 overall. The Lady Flyers have shutouts in three of their four wins. Dixie hosts the region’s other top contender, Cedar, next Tuesday.
Snow Canyon, 4-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in region, is at Hurrricane Tuesday night.
Hurricane got its first region win with a 2-0 edging of Canyon View. Jaquoi Allen recorded the shutout in goal and Ashlyn Rowland and Kenzie Beardall netted the two goals for the Lady Tigers.
Hurricane, 1-1-0 in region and 2-3-1 overall, hosts Snow Canyon Tuesday. Canyon View, 2-5-0 and 0-3-0, is at Pine View Tuesday.
