ENTERPRISE – An Enterprise Elementary School teacher and her students are now using 60 Chromebooks to research, write and explore thanks to contributions from The Horace Mann Companies, local Horace Mann agent Tyler May, the Gates Foundation and other benefactors who donated through DonorsChoose.org.
DonorsChoose.org is a website that connects teachers with donors. The project that was funded for Enterprise Elementary, “Technology: The Key to the Future,” was valued at more than $17,000. Horace Mann donated more than $4,100 and May donated $3,500. The Gates Foundation paid more than $8,500, and other donors contributed more than $900.
“Some of my students have no access to a computer, the internet or technology at all,” Heather Day, a fifth-grade teacher at Enterprise Elementary, wrote in her project post. “My students will be able to do more research projects in class, practice their writing, increase their fluency, improve their comprehension, and even create projects with technology.”
“This is a going to make a huge impact on this classroom and this school,” May said. “DonorsChoose.org allows multiple donors to come together and fund projects they are passionate about for one reason or another. Horace Mann is passionate about being there for teachers.”
Horace Mann partnered with DonorsChoose.org in 2011 and has since donated more than $2.5 million dollars. Horace Mann agents have also shown teachers throughout the nation how to successfully post DonorsChoose.org projects.
Horace Mann’s commitment to educators continues with its #EdTech Survival Kit Giveaway, which opened on Tuesday. Visit Horace Mann’s Facebook page for more details.

Just the start of common core and data collection. How stupid are you people?
Great news for the children of Enterprise! The digital divide is real. I’m glad someone is putting their Communities’ children first and giving these boys and girls the opportunity for an even brighter future.
These kids would rather have gotten iphones.
