ST. GEORGE – Police were investigating an alleged mistake through an unfortunate convergence of circumstances Monday after a vehicle crashed through bushes and mailboxes before smashing into a Vista Ridge Estates home on the 1300 North block of Dixie Drive.
The call came in just before 9:30 this morning, St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said, after a woman driving a silver Camaro apparently hit the accelerator instead of the brakes.
“She was pulling up to the mailboxes there – just leaving the community,” Despain said, “and went to put on the brake, but, we think, missed the brake and pushed the accelerator instead which caused the car to kind of lurch forward and run into the mailboxes.”
From there, the woman’s day went from bad to worse.
“Then, she thought she put the car into park, but actually, she missed park and put the car in reverse,” Despain said, “and then put her foot on the accelerator again which caused her to backup over the median.”
After she had already hit the mailboxes, the woman took out some bushes, shrubs and a pole with her Camaro before crashing into the garage area of a nearby home.
The collisions caused only minor damage to the Camaro, Despain said, and some minor damage to the house and landscaping.
Amazingly, Despain said, nobody was hurt.
“This seems to be just kind of a mistake; just an unfortunate circumstance,” he said. “She wasn’t under the influence, didn’t mean to do it – it was an absolute accident. She was going for the brake and accidentally hit the accelerator and then thought her car was in park when it wasn’t and just an accident all the way around.”
The woman was issued a citation for negligent collision, Despain said, because the collision occurred on private property.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by authorities and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Right, a person always pushes their accelerator after they have put their car in park. Wonder who this broad is or/and whom she is related to. . .
Welcome to Dixie! Here’s your sign!
Monday mornings can be a headache sometimes. (hum) Just wondering– she didn’t happen to a blonde did she? Yeah I know, a sexist thing to say.
Let me guess, she is over 70 years old? If this is the case, maybe she shouldn’t be driving. My 77 year old Father and 98 year old Grandfather have both lost their licenses this year because they were not able to drive safely anymore. It sounds to me like this lady should take the high road and turn in her license. Maybe the Police need to issue more DWO’s (Driving While Old).
Beerbelly your name fits.
Under the influence of stupidity or Xanax…either way, both are abundant in Dixie!
Pictures, I want pictures of this mayhem.
You can’t fix stupid.
Clearly a Camaro is a dangerous vehicle. Perhaps it is time to look at additional regulations on these dangerous cars and their irresponsible owners. Will someone please think of the children ?
Was she under the influence of church koolaid?
My apologies, everyone. You see, I’m a complete …* and as such, I have nothing better to do than repeat myself over and over again as I comment on thses articles. I just need attention because my mommy abused me…
