(September 17, 1938 – August 1, 2014)
Grant Ernest Cammack, 75, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014. Grant was born on September 17, 1938 in Pingree, Idaho to Rulan Francis Cammack and Desa Jane Theobald. He married Janet Christiansen on July 19, 1974 in Riverside, Idaho. Shortly thereafter, Grant and Janet were sealed together in the Idaho Falls, Idaho LDS temple.
Grant was raised on a farm and graduated high school in Pingree, Idaho. After graduating high school, he spent 2 years in Australia serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After completing two years of service in Australia, Grant continued his education at Ricks College, in Rexburg, Idaho. He then joined the United States Army, where his was commended for being an expert marksman. After serving his time in the Army, Grant continued serving his country in the United States Air Force reserve where he worked in nuclear missile silos in Northern Utah.
After years of working in the Air Force reserves, Grant moved back to Idaho were he spent years working for the LDS church in Rockland, Idaho. Upon retiring, he and his wife Janet, moved to St. George, Utah.
All of the many places Grant lived, worked, and resided are just side notes in the life of this great man. The center of his life was loving and caring for others! It didn’t matter where he was, or what he was doing, he always made sure others were happy and cared for. As a result, most of his time and hobbies revolved around helping and loving others. He spent years serving in the Boy Scouts where he received the “Silver Beaver” award. He loved to dutch oven cook and make milk shakes for neighbors, friends, and family. He could often be found camping, riding motorcycles, or just spending quality time with his grandchildren, friends and neighbors. In the evenings, he could be spotted riding around the neighborhood in his truck with his two best buddies, Teddy and Bear. Regardless of what he was doing, everything Grant did centered around loving and caring for others.
Grant is survived by his wife Janet Cammack of St. George, Utah. He has five children; Chris Barnard, Stephanie Cammack, Craig Barnard, Lynette Cammack and David Cammack. Grant is the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. His family also includes five siblings, Elwin Cammack, Edwin Cammack, Stanley Cammack, Barbara Anderson and Ray Cammack, as well as many more family and friends.
Funeral Services
- Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 6, 11 a.m. at the LDS Chapel, 3519 Manzanita Road, St. George, Utah.
- Viewings will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services and Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 6-7 p.m. at the Heideman-Hughes Mortuary, 1037 East 700 South, St. George, Utah.
- Interment will take place in the Tonaquint Cemetery.
