Graffiti vandals target St. George, police seek public’s help

ST. GEORGE – St. George Police responded to 10 complaints of vandalism early Tuesday morning after someone used spray paint on various buildings, signs and vehicles throughout the city.

The areas that were most heavily affected were the Fort Pierce Drive, 500 W. 300 North, and 1100 West and 500 North areas, including a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meeting house on Fort Pierce Drive, the St. George Police Department said in a press statement.

“It is believed that this vandalism is not gang related,” officials said, “but a senseless act of random vandalism.”

The estimated cost for damages is over $2,000, the statement said. Owners of the property are working with the St. George City Parks Dividion on the removal of the paint.

“There was an older model Red Chevrolet Cavalier occupied by three males seen in the area of one of the vandalism incidents,” officials said in the statement. “The occupants of this vehicle may have been involved in the incidents.”

Anyone with any information regarding this vandalism is asked to contact the St. George Police Department at 435-627-4300.

Just so you know, it’s the St. George Parks Division that takes care of the graffiti. There is no Parks & Recreation Department. The Recreation Division is a division of the Leisure Services Department as is the Parks Division.

  • Wannabe's July 22, 2014 at 6:07 pm

These tags are probably the work of the same st george mormon gangsta wannabees who drive around listening to loud, vulgar gansta rap music. These are white kids who listen to the same rap music at sand hollow and annoy everyone around them. It’s their childish way of acting rebellious. Sunday, they’ll be sitting in church with momma acting all white and delightful.

It’s “white and delightsome”. But yeah, you’re probably right.

Church people will demand severe punishment until they learn it’s their own kids doing it. Then they will want full leniency,

  • Alice July 23, 2014 at 8:16 am

REALLY? The first thing out of people mouths is that it’s Mormon kids crossing over to the dark side? Give me a break, there are plenty of other people in this city that are more than capable of doing this stuff.

Whoever these little pukes are, I hope they catch them. Perhaps a public whipping would be on order? They could hold it right beside the carousel.
