Stuck on Perks: Beverage run goes awry

ST. GEORGE – Employees of Perks Espresso and Smoothies are accustomed to doling out caffeine, but they got a jolt of their own Thursday afternoon when a U-Haul truck attempting to pull up to the south drive-through window at the company’s kiosk in the Harmons parking lot in St. George scraped the corner of the building and became stuck.

“They heard it and felt it,” St. George Police Officer Tyrell Bangerter said.

Just after 2 p.m., a man and woman were on their way to order a beverage from Perks. The man, who was at the wheel, attempted to pull up to the Perks ordering window but didn’t make a wide enough turn, and the U-Haul scraped the side and became stuck against the building with its rear wheels off the ground.

“This is common when people are driving larger vehicles,” Bangerter said.

There was minor damage to the vehicle and to the Perks building.

The north drive-through window at Perks remained open, but the south drive-through window had to be shut down for about an hour and could only accept walk-up customers.

The driver of the U-Haul was issued a citation for negligent collision.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement at the scene and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Assistant to the Editor Cami Cox Jim contributed to this report.

Police don’t have jurisdiction to issue citations in a parking lot.
Anyone who has ever been in a fender bender in a parking lot knows this.

This is pretty funny. I saw a ryder truck destroy an awning of a gas station once. Good entertainment. Just like half blind old people that don’t have to have a cdl to drive a 60,000lbs motor home.
