WASHINGTON COUNTY – The driver of a semitrailer was arrested Saturday night for allegedly driving impaired.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m., multiple motorists reported that a semitrailer on northbound I-15 around mile post 28 – just north of Toquerville – appeared to be driving recklessly. They reported the semitrailer was weaving back and forth on the roadway and nearly drifted into the concrete barrier, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Mary Kaye Lucas said.
The Highway Patrol responded and attempted to get the driver to pull over. During the pursuit, the UHP used both lights and sirens to try and get the driver’s attention. The driver didn’t pull over until around mile post 38 – between the Ranch and Kolob Canyon exits.
The driver was determined to be impaired and driving under the influence of prescription drugs, Lucas said.
Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit and took the driver into custody.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
