Severe fire hazard leads to closure of Oak Grove Campground

ST. GEORGE — Oak Grove Campground will be closed until further notice due to the severe fire hazard that exists in Southern Utah and the one-way in, one-way out access into the campground. Crews went to the campground Tuesday to spread the word to current campers.

“It is a long way up there to Oak Grove. If a fire were to start at the bottom, anyone in that campground would not be in a good spot,” Pine Valley Ranger District Fire Management Officer Ken Henson said.
“With the current fire conditions we are looking at, closing Oak Grove Campground is a necessary step for ensuring public safety,” Pine Valley District Ranger Joe Rechsteiner said.
The Pine Valley Ranger District went into Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on June 18, and the Cedar City and Powell Ranger Districts followed suit on July 1.
For more information about Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, please call the Pine Valley Ranger District Office at 435-652-3100.
Fire restrictions are in effect for most of southwest Utah due to drought conditions and hot temperatures.
