Beatrice “Bea” Petty Shaw, age 97, passed away June 29, 2014 in Leeds, Utah. She was born July 15, 1916, in Cedar City, Utah to Frank H. and Bertha Jane Cottam Petty.
Bea was born, raised and educated in Cedar City, attending the BAC Academy. She was among one of the first to attend and graduate from the LDS Hospital Nursing School in 1939.
Bea married Charles Howard Shaw on May 8, 1940, in Cedar City, Utah. Charles was an Air Force Pilot career military, they traveled far and wide ending up in Alexandria, VA, where Charles worked at the Pentagon. He retired in 1966.
In 2005, Bea and Charles moved to Leeds, Utah to be with their daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Dwight Burch.
Bea was a generous and sweet person. She was a gifted nurse always caring for friends and neighbors. She enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Bea was an active member of the LDS Church who loved to do temple work. She loved her Savior, family and friends.
She is survived by her three daughters, Cindy (Dwight) Burch of Leeds, UT, Gloria Shaw of St. George, UT, and Nancy (Charlie) Harper of Titusville, FL; three grandchildren, Jill, Dave and Kris; and a sister, Pat Magleby of St. George, UT. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Charles.
- Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the Leeds LDS Chapel, 75 North Main Street, Leeds, UT.
- There will be a viewing Thursday morning from 9-9:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
- Interment will take place in the Cedar City Cemetery.
