WASHINGTON COUNTY – “Move It!” mentors are being sought to volunteer at local elementary schools for the 2014-2015 school year. Each participating mentor will receive one free guaranteed entry into the 2015 St. George Marathon along with opportunities to earn free St. George Races entries.
Currently in its third year, “Move It!” is a City of St. George-sponsored physical education program that all Washington County elementary schools – including public, private and charter schools – are currently involved in, according to a press release.
Volunteer mentors in the “Move It!” program regularly visit their assigned schools and promote physical fitness, encouraging kids to get up and move. Mentors reward student participation by handing out tokens that kids can redeem for prizes.
To qualify for the mentoring program, applicants must:
- Live in Washington County
- Be 21 or older
- Attend three mandatory meetings in August, January and May
- Volunteer for at least one “Move It!” kids race
- Attend their given school at least once a week (may be divided among multiple mentors)
- Have a fun and positive attitude and be willing to get kids involved
