A Chevrolet truck was traveling westbound on SR-24 when it drifted off the right shoulder of the road, according to a UHP press release. The driver overcorrected to the left and the vehicle drifted into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with a passing Scion. Both occupants of the Scion were pronounced dead at the scene; neither was wearing a seat belt. The driver of the truck was transported to Sevier Valley Hospital with minor injuries.

UHP is currently investigating whether the driver of the truck was impaired.

The deceased Scion driver and passenger have been identified as Stephen Foster, 43, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Kristina Foster, 41, of Knoxville, Tennessee.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by the authorities and may not contain the full scope of findings.
