CEDAR CITY – People from all over the country gathered at the Cross Hollows Event Center to watch day one of the two of Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association events.
The Cedar City PRCA Rodeo began with Friday night’s performance, as a full contingent of events including bareback, steer wrestling, tie down roping, saddlebronc, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding.
After the championship bareback riding, children entered the arena to take part in the cash cow events. For two different age groups, two calves caring cash ran around the arena as kids kept whatever they could grab.
The championship saddlebronc riding was a fan favorite as brothers – two-time world champion Cody Wright and world champion Jesse Wright, from Milford – took to the arena.
“We knew all the Wright Brothers were up tonight,” Gale Ray, from St. George, said. “We wanted to come watch that and we came to watch the barrel race.”
Spectators were not disappointed as riders put on an impressive show.
Having won the saddlebronc last year after proposing to his wife, CoBurn Bradshaw returned to the event with a performance that did not disappoint.
Bradshaw posted an impressive score of 91, followed by brother-in-law Cody Wright with a 90.
The event also attracted locals in support of the community.
“We heard about the rodeo and just decided to come out and support it,” John Glass, from Cedar City, said.
Action will continue Saturday night with a full schedule of events and another two cash cows for the kids.
“I’ve come to cedar for quite a few years,” Ray said, “this is a great rodeo, they do a good job with this.”
