CEDAR CITY — Emergency personnel responded to a two-car accident this morning on Interstate 15 just south of Cedar City. The wreck caused a rollover which lead to one driver being transportation to the hospital.
At approximately 10 a.m. a white Honda Civic and a grey Honda CRV both traveling south between mile posts 55 and 56 made contact when the CRV made a lane change, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Scott Mackelprang said. This caused both vehicles to swerve into the median resulting in the rollover of the CRV. The Civic continued to slide south as it was pushed by the CRV, but came to rest right side up.
The Civic maintained mostly front-end damage, while the CRV had significant top damage from the rollover. Airbags on the Civic were deployed, and both vehicles had to be towed.
The female driver of the CRV was transported to Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City with non-life threatening injuries, Mackelprang said.
Life Flight was on standby but was eventually called off.
I-15 was reduced to one lane until 10:39 a.m., causing minimal traffic delays, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said.
Utah Highway Patrol responded to the accident with the assistance of the Iron County Sheriff’s Office.
The cause of the accident is still unclear and is currently under investigation.
