CEDAR CITY — Iron County Sheriff’s SWAT team and Hostage Negotiations Unit assisted with an incident involving a reportedly armed, suicidal man approximately 7 miles north of Cedar City on Sunday afternoon. After negotiations, the man agreed to surrender and was taken to the hospital.
On Sunday at approximately 1:40 p.m., Iron County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a suicidal subject call. Deputies were also given information that the subject was armed, Iron County Sheriff’s Sgt. Nik Johnson wrote in a statement. They located a 42-year-old man from Cedar City, in a vehicle east of Lund Highway.
Deputies continued observation of the man while the Iron County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and the Hostage Negations Unit were called to the scene. Negotiators spoke with the man and he agreed to surrender to SWAT members.
He was then taken to the Valley View Medical Center for evaluation.
A firearm was located in the vehicle.
