3A State Softball: Falcons lone southern team left in tourney

SPANISH FORK – Canyon View won a trio of win-or-go-home games Friday — and will have to do it again Saturday — as the Falcons played a very successful game of do-or-die Friday at the 3A State Softball Tournament.

Snow Canyon wasn’t as fortunate, splitting a pair of games and ending its season with a blowout loss to Juab.

The Falcons lost a winner’s bracket game Thursday afternoon, dropping them into the one-loss bracket and the edge of elimination. Unfazed by the situation, Canyon View beat Tooele 5-4, downed Grantsville 5-4, then capped the exciting day with a 4-3 win over Juab.

The Falcons improved to 22-6 with the two wins and have gone 4-1 in the tournament.

Snow Canyon, meanwhile, started the day in the same boat as CV and won its first game with a 4-3 victory over Bear River. But things went south in the Lady Warriors’ second game. Juab, which gave SC its first loss of the tourney last week, beat up on the Warriors in a 15-0 mercy-rule game.

Juab had 17 hits in the game as SC just seemed to run out of gas.

Stansbury beat all challengers to emerge as the only unbeaten team in the tourney and will play for the championship at 12:30 Saturday afternoon. The Stallions beat Grantsville and Uintah.

Canyon View will play Uintah at 10 a.m. in an elimination game with the winner battling and having to beat Stansbury twice. The Stallions are the defending state champions.
