GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. – One person is dead after plummeting about 400-feet off the rim of the Grand Canyon.
At around 1 p.m. Monday, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of an individual falling off the rim near Mather Point, located near the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, Kirby-Lynn Shedlowski, spokesperson for the Grand Canyon National Park, said.
Crews in a National Park Service helicopter were able to locate the individual about 400-feet below the rim, Shedlowski said. Park Service Search and Rescue crews are working to recover the body.
The gender of the body wasn’t immediately known.
Mather Point will remain closed to the public until further notice.
