ST. GEORGE — Snow Canyon’s bats seemed a bit, well, angry Tuesday afternoon.

softbThe Warriors responded to their first region home loss in two years — Friday’s 8-3 defeat at the hands of Canyon View — by breaking out the whupping sticks against sixth-place Pine View in an 18-2 victory Tuesday at Panther Field.

Shelby Hutchings and Lauren Smith had three hits each as Snow Canyon struck for seven runs in the top of the first inning before Pine View had even come to bat. The Panthers scored a run in their half, but the Warriors added eight more in the second inning for a 15-1 lead and to erase any doubt as to who would win the day.

Mada Mooring had three RBIs and also scored three times and Hutchings scored four times in the game. Ashley Miller also knocked in three runs. Heather Prestwich got the win in the circle for Snow Canyon in a game that was shortened to four innings based on the UHSAA mercy run-rule. Snow Canyon had 14 hits, but was also helped out by six Pine View errors.

The Warriors, 10-4 overall and 6-2 in region, are in a dogfight for the region title with four games left. SC is tied with Canyon View and the two teams lead Cedar by a half-game. Snow Canyon plays at Hurricane Wednesday.

Canyon View 9, Cedar 7

Kenzie Sawyer homered and doubled and Kaitlyn Delange also went deep as Canyon View jumped on the Lady Reds early.

The Falcons led 6-1 after two innings, but Cedar chipped away and was within 6-4. A pair of runs in the fifth made it 8-4, but the Lady Reds got three back in the top of the sixth to make it 8-7. Sawyer’s homer brought in a huge insurance run for the final tally.

There were 12 extra-base hits in the game, including five homers. For Cedar, Hannah Williams went yard twice and Raegan Urquidez also hit one out.

The win dropped Cedar from first to third in region, but just a half game behind Snow Canyon and Canyon View. Cedar, 8-9 and 5-2, is home for Desert Hills Wednesday.

The Falcons, 11-4 and 6-2, are at Pine View Wednesday.

Dixie 11, Hurricane 0

Shauna Gelter hit a grand slam for the Flyers, who stay in prime position to get into the playoffs with the win. In fact, Dixie is just a game out of first place with four remaining.

Summer Simkins pitched the five inning shutout, allowing just two hits to winless Hurricane. Michaela DeKorver doubled for Dixie, which improved to 8-9 and 5-3. The Flyers are off Wednesday and next play at Snow Canyon next Tuesday.

Hurricane, 4-12 and 0-8, got a double from Jaquoi Allen. The Tigers host Snow Canyon Wednesday.
