ST. GEORGE — Snow Canyon and Canyon View both faced lower-tier opponents Wednesday night and the results were not surprising as the two teams came away with big wins to stay on top of Region 9 in softball action around southern Utah.
The Warriors continue to pound the ball, scoring 17 runs in a 17-2 drubbing of Hurricane. Snow Canyon had seven doubles in the game and shortened the game to just four innings via the mercy rule. Heather Prestwich again recorded the win in the circle for the Warriors.
Snow Canyon improved to 11-4 overall and 7-2 in region with the victory and will enjoy the long Easter weekend on a two-game winning streak. SC hosts Dixie next Tuesday.
Canyon View kept pace with the Warriors by winning at Pine View 6-0. Josie Platt pitched the shutout for the Falcons, scattering eight hits. Her defense backed her up, committing just a single error in the game.
CV scored a run in the first, two in the second and three more in the third to forge the early lead for Platt. The Falcons had 10 hits and were aided by three Pine View errors.
Canyon View, 12-4 and 7-2, plays at Desert Hills next Tuesday. Pine View, which fell to 6-10 and 2-7, plays at Cedar Tuesday.
The third softball game of the night featured Cedar taking a home victory 5-2 over Desert Hills.
The Lady Reds are in the thick of the Region 9 race as well, improving to 6-2 in region (9-9 overall), a half-game behind the Falcons and Warriors.
