Marilyn “Jerri” Messer (Jourdan)

(July 19, 1954 – March 6, 2014)

God saw her getting tired; a cure was not to be. He wrapped her in his loving arms and whispered ‘Come with me.’ She suffered much in silence, her spirit did not bend. She faced her pain with courage, until the very end. She tried so hard to stay with us but her fight was not in vein, God took her to His loving home and freed her from the pain.

Marilyn Jeanette “Jerri” Jourdan Messer, age 59, passed away on March 6, 2014, in St. George, Utah. She was born on July 19, 1954 in Santa Barbara, California to Walter Joseph Jourdan and Stella Louise “Boots” Musgrove. Jerri was raised in Bell Gardens, California where she met her first husband Terrance Messer who later passed while she was expecting the first of her five children. She then met Marvin Paul Briese and they were later married and moved to Azusa, CA.

Those of you that knew her will understand this and know she has spread her wings to fly free now and that was the hardest thing she would ever endure because she was and always will be the “lioness” when it came to her children and their lives. She would always fight and never give up no matter what the sacrifice. She is gone but not forgotten and will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her children, Terry Messer (Mary Grubbs Messer) St. George, Utah, Marla Greenhalgh (George Greenhalgh) Moab, Utah, Dawn Briese Newman, (Mike Newman) Ogden, Utah, Renee Briese, St. George, Utah, Tiffany McEwen (Doug Pexton) St. George, Utah; grandchildren, Shyla Briese, TJ Messer, Johnathan Messer, Ryan Davis, McCoy Davis, Styles Davis, Jayden McEwen, Ariyanna Pexton, Kamryn Pexton, Trevyr Messer, Tru Messer, Wyatt Messer and great grandchildren, Bryton Briese Young; and brother, Sean Jourdan (Lisa Jourdan), Bishop, CA.

Walter Joseph Jourdan, Stella Louise “Boots” Musgrove, Walter Joseph “Joey” Jourdan Jr., Terrance Messer, and Marvin Briese precede her in death.

There will be no services at Jerri’s request. The family will gather for a viewing to say their goodbyes and then she will be cremated at her request.

Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 435-673-2454. Friends and family are invited to sign Marilyn’s guestbook at www.spilsburymortuary.com.
