IVINS – The Kayenta Arts Foundation is proud to offer an enriching theatrical experience during its presentation of “Womenfolk!” to be held in the Kayenta Outdoor Theatre on April 12. The show is open to the public and tickets are $20 per person.
This performance will mark the season opener for the Kayenta Arts Foundation and will highlight the musical talents of Bernice Lewis, Kaitlin Sevy and Lori Silcher. All three women will share their own unique interpretations of the popular musical art form.
Bernice Lewis
Bernice Lewis of Massachusetts has established a solid national fan base after spending nearly three decades performing in festivals, concert halls, coffeehouses, colleges and has produced half a dozen CDs. Lewis is also a published poet, producer and educator. She has been a featured performer on NPR’s Mountain Stage program, as well as, at the Kennedy Center. She has shared the stage with many renowned artists, including Dar Williams, Dixie Chicks, Patty Griffin, Pete Seeger, Ellis Paul, Rory Block and Livingston Taylor.
“Bernice is a voice full of light and hope,” Roxanne Cash said. “She is one of the keepers of the flame of Real Songwriting.”
Kaitlin Sevy
From her early open mic days at Groovacious in Cedar City to appearing as the opening act for a number of national touring artists, Sevy has built a well-deserved reputation as one of Southern Utah’s best vocalists. Her unique and eclectic vocals run the gamut from Norah Jones to Billie Holiday. She is currently the lead vocalist for the jazz and bluegrass band Kaity and the Raccoons.
Lori Silcher
Lori Silcher of Montana said she was influenced by the gospel bluegrass movement and musicians Joan Baez, Emmy Lou Harris and Juice Newton. Silcher is well-known in Western Montana for her heartfelt vocals and upbeat stage presence. She has won The Best of The Bitterroot musician award twice, and her most recent album Passage of Time, earned an outstanding review in the Roots Music Report.
